Sanctity (Christianity)

  • Sainthood

Description

According to Thomas Merton, sanctity consists of discovering one's true self, making the choice to be really that self; and offering to God the worship of that true self in imitation of God, actively participating in one's own life by choosing truth. In this state it is not being admirable to others which counts, but finding it possible to admire everyone else, to have the compassion which sees good in everyone. One is aware that one is a sinner among sinners and that all need the mercy of God.
