Sacrificial friendship (ICA)

Description

This is experienced as a realization that one's relationships are built on a shared concern for human suffering, that one's "friends" are those who have joined in acting out their care for humankind. It occurs when a person embodies his decision to care and finds that all his old relations have somehow lost their meaning and importance for them, as when the main character in the movie "Norma Raye" discovers that her colleagues in the struggle are the black people of the community with whom she had never associated.

Context

In the ICA New Religious Mode in the arena of acting out one's engagement (the life of obedience) the third formal aspect is embodying charity as the transestablishment to act out social concern. At the fourth phenomenological level this occurs when one lives on behalf of the evolution of human consciousness.
