Saccidananda

  • Sat-cit-ananda

Description

This is the experience of the bliss (ananda) of being, existence, truth (sat); and of knowing that one is that being, existence, truth (cit). The being and the awareness of being are indivisible, there is no duality (advaita). Although a sanskrit term used in vedic philosophy (Hindu), Abhishiktananda (Henri Le Saux) demonstrates the universality of the term and it's relationship to Christianity, equating "sat" with the Father, "cit" with the Son and "ananda" with the Holy Spirit. Saccidananda symbolizes the innermost mystery of God and also the divine presence in the innermost being of man. It is said to be indescribable but capable of being experienced in profound silence of spirit. It is compared with the silence following pronunciation of the sacred syllable "Om", when all sound is left behind.
