Description

Right speech and right acts are purified. In association with right outlook, the disciple supports himself without resorting to wrong means of livelihood in a profession which does others no harm. The characteristic is cleansing; the function is the mode or occurrence of proper livelihood; manifestation is in abandoning wrong livelihood.

Context

One of the characteristics of the Eightfold Way of Buddhism attained with the path of bhavana (meditation) and which, together with right speech and right acts, constitutes ethical conduct (sila).
