Ri
Description
In Confucianism, this is the law or principle which is the source of and which underlies all existence and the rules (both natural and social) which govern it. In some schools of thought in Japan, the meaning of ri is restricted to natural and social law, or simply to natural laws; other schools give it a more metaphysical sense as the principle which, in conjunction with ki – vital breath – is the source of all.
