Religious humanism

Description

The commandments to love God and to love one's neighbour are not seen as separable and there is no way that one can achieve holiness and goodness in one's self while allowing an unjust social order to continue without resistance. The importance is not only one's own morality and salvation, one is impelled to take part in the struggle to change the world for the better, to abolish the present order and to bring in a new and equitable replacement. God is in my neighbour, who I must love as myself through practical response to my neighbour's plight. Religion and morality cannot be separated, morality becomes religion. The language and imagery of religion are seen only as means to guide the struggle, not as ends in themselves; the sacred exists only to hasten the dawn of a new moral order for humanity; the present is only of value in that it is working for the future.
