Religious function (ICA)
Description
This is the awareness that one is concerned with the spiritual well-being of society, that what one is doing with one's life is more than a job: there is dedication to the task. It occurs when one becomes aware of the effect one's life and work have on the task to which one has given one's self, as when deciding to work full time in the ecological movement or working to bring about the "green revolution" in Asia.
Context
In the ICA New Religious Mode in the arena of acting out one's deed (the life of doing) the third formal aspect is one's awareness of one's allegiance to those who act on behalf of life as a whole. At the first phenomenological level this occurs when one is confronted by the fact that to live is to be of service.
