Recognition of guilt (Brainwashing)

This mode is brought about by persuasions of guilt and demands to feel guilty. The unconscious, and finally the conscious, is pervaded by feelings of evil. The individual comes to believe that he himself is the cause of his sufferings, which are deserved and to be expected; and although the guilt is not yet specific he is led to confess.

A stage reached in thought reform, a system of organized, deliberate and total psychological training which effects individual change through two basic elements – confession (renouncing of past beliefs and attitudes) and re-education (remaking of the individual in the required image).
