Radical therapy

  • Radical psychiatry

Description

It has been argued that psychotherapy may be a means of oppression in that its aim is to assist the individual in adjusting to the status quo when in fact it is the status quo that should change. Radical therapy uses psychiatry as a force for liberation, taking the position that alienation is the result of oppression and that by discovering the reason for the alienation the individual will grow in self-knowledge.
