Quaker meditation (Christianity)
Description
In contrast to typical Christian services, comprising vocalized prayer, worship and thanksgiving and containing a sermon or address, meetings of Quakers - the 'Society of Friends' - are held in almost complete silence, only broken as a member of the congregation feels impelled to speak. This may only occur once or twice during the meeting which typically lasts about an hour. The silence held within the group in consciousness of God's presence brings an awareness of inner light illuminating the darkness and leading to knowledge and truth.
