Purpose
Description
A sense of purpose, or coherent end, for behaviour integrates actions into a sequence or system. Originally "purpose" denoted "reason for existence", with the teleological implication of divine purpose behind creation and development. Rationalism treats purpose as human activity, associated to reason. Some philosophies include the juxtapositioning of causality with purpose (indeterminism); and purpose as the reflection of objective needs, a plan of action determining the nature of various operations and their place in the overall system (Marxism).
