Description
[Virtue as volition]
is present in one who, for example, abstains from killing living things, and who fulfils his duties. [Virtue as consciousness concomitant or mental properties]
is the abstinence in one who follows the law. [Virtue as restraint]
is that exercised through: the rules of the community (patimokkha); mindfulness; knowledge; patience; energy. [Virtue as non-transgression]
means not to transgress in body or speech the precepts which one has undertaken. Purification of virtue is the purified four-fold virtue.
Context
One of the two purifications or purities which constitute the roots of understanding according to Hinayana Buddhism, the other being the purification of consciousness or purity of mind.
