Psychic isolation
Description
According to Jung, psychic isolation occurs when an individual, for no apparent reason, becomes consciously aware of some material in the collective unconscious which would normally be hidden. This experience is so overwhelming and uncanny that the individual feels estranged from others, partly from a fear of being considered insane; the psychic atmosphere is animated and a "momentous alteration of the personality" is signified.
