Psychic health and spirituality

Description

Psychic problems and infantile mentality make observable progress in mature spiritual conduct more difficult. Opinions differ as to whether mental illness is the result of sin, although it is usually considered that the psychic rather than the moral personality is the basis of such illness and medical treatment is recommended for psychic problems. Neither achievement of moral perfection nor good mental health is found more often among fervently religious people than otherwise - since it is the effort towards exercising virtue that is important rather than the evident results.
