Psychic energy
Description
The energy which provides the force behind any mental activity, with its source in the id. In the context of seeking pleasure and avoiding displeasure, accumulation of psychic energy results in a striving for discharge to reduce the tension, and thus impels behaviour based on instinctual drive. Small increases in psychic energy may create signal anxiety or bring an unconscious idea into consciousness.
