Pareidolia

  • Pareidolic illusions

Description

This form of illusion is indulged in intentionally. It involves seeing images in the fire or in clouds, for example. Although such images usually occur when perception is not very sharp, the illusion still remains when attention is heightened. Although the illusion is made to appear voluntarily, it cannot be removed voluntarily and heightened attention may intensify it.
