The characteristic of painful feeling is experiencing an undesirable, tangible object; the function is the withering or waning of associated states; the manifestation is physical (bodily) affliction; the proximate cause is the controlling faculty of the body.
Context
In Hinayana Buddhism, one of the five ways in which feeling is analysed in the feeling aggregate.
