In this state one feels a compulsion like that of the early infantile or even embryonic condition. One makes contact with one's internal world but loses contact with external reality, it is the journey down or into darkness of myth and legend. Although one may not be aware of the fact, so long as this condition is only temporary it may, according to Jung, be a necessary phase in one's development.
