Names of Christ (Christianity)
Description
Fray Luis de León clearly states that language about God is inadequate. God can only be known and named when finally standing in His presence. Until that time, the various names which Christ has been given each reveal or provide the means of exploring some facet of God's revelation of Himself. The greatness, perfection, functions, benefits of Christ are beyond the ability of a soul to encompass them, let alone a single name describe them. Each name is like a single drop of water poured into a glass, each adding to understanding because one is incapable of receiving more at any given time. This gradual self-revelation of God through the Spirit is different and appropriate for each individual.
