Description

This is awareness of existing in the physical and mental level – as having name and form – which is the state of a being conscious as an individual comprising the five skandhas or aggregates of clinging.

Context

The fourth of 12 links – nidana – perpetuating the cycle of birth and death as delineated in the Buddhist causally continuous doctrine of being; namarupa arising, with the six object realms of the senses, from individual consciousness – vijnana.
