Modes of awareness associated with use of nicotine

  • Tobacco smoking

Description

Alterations of mood under the influence of nicotine are small if perceptible at all, and may be of relaxation or of stimulation. Some evidence suggests that when smoking cigarettes, short puffs stimulate while long puffs relax. However, it is very physiologically addictive; and withdrawal symptoms associated with discontinuing its use are severe, including anxiety, difficulty in concentrating, irritability and anger.
