Man of knowledge

The ultimate goal of the system of Carlos Castaneda is to become a man of knowledge although, due to man's impermanence, this is never achieved. By following the teaching of a Shaman (Don Juan) and through supernatural intervention through an ally (hallucinogenic drugs), one is show the right way to live. The drugs induce a state of non-ordinary reality and such experience leads to new ways of behaviour. The pursuit of knowledge involves enormous effort; one is said to be a warrior on the path of such pursuit, living a frugal life and strengthening qualities of respect, fear, awakened intent and self control. This leads to stopping the world, when common sense views are seen as only an interpretation and not reality as such.
