Learning theory therapy

Description

This therapy is based on an understanding of why an individual does not learn to adjust behaviour automatically. It is based on the [pleasure principle]

, that one seeks to avoid situations which carry painful reactions; and emphasizes new, pleasurable situations in which to build up new, well-adjusted habits. Maladaptive behaviour patterns are unlearned by counterconditioning the anxieties that motivate them.
