Kama (Hinduism)
- Artistic life
- Cultural life
Description
Hindu code of practise sees four great aims in human life underlying the unity which draws together the instinct to procreate, love of power and wealth, desire for the common good and longing for spiritual communion. Kama, mankind's artistic or cultural life, or the satisfaction of desires, is one of these four aims.
Context
One of the four great aims of life, the others being artha (wealth), dharma (righteousness) and moksa (spiritual freedom). When these are in harmony there is no discord between the natural and spiritual life.
