Islamic liberation (Islam)
Description
The theology of current Islamic liberation is based on the premise that the Muslim world is permeated with tension between the values and principles of Islam and those of secular society. The aim is to reconstruct society based on Islamic ideals and values while still taking into account contemporary needs. Allah is the creator, sustainer and sovereign over all creation and humanity's obedience to Allah and fulfilling of divine commands in relation to mankind's trusteeship over creation can bring in a new world order of happiness, world and universal justice and peace. By contrast, no system which is man-made can be free of human weakness, desire and self-interest. For liberation in obedience to Allah there must be: a renewal of Islamic thought to take into account contemporary requirements and acknowledging that all human experience is fallible and can be improved upon; an organized body - or jama'h - of people combining vision with intellect and skill to ensure the systematic establishment of the Islamic order; individual and collective efforts, focused on the mosque, to bring about change in society through human development based upon education and retaining the good while discarding the bad; change of leadership in the democratic order at the intellectual and cultural as well as the social level.
