Inward purity (Sufism)
- Safa
Description
Central to mystic discipline is purification of the soul; the Sufi seeks to leave impurity behind and, free from this impurity, to attain spiritual perfection. Rather than the following of theoretical principles or of doctrinal knowledge, inward purity is the means for realization of moral ideals and higher values; living a virtuous life leads to disciplining of the soul. Purity being characteristic of those who love, perfect purification brings rejoicing in the vision of God and affinity with him. The soul sees nothing but God and eventually becomes one with him.
