Innovative learning
Description
As opposed to [maintenance learning]
(which, although necessary, simply reinforces and enhances already existing outlooks, methods, rules and ways of life), [innovative learning]
operates in open situations and open systems, and derives from dissonance among contexts. Through problem formulating and clustering it achieves integration, synthesis, and broadening of horizons. Where appropriate contexts and analogies do not already exist, innovative learning encourages the development of a capacity to construct suitable alternative mental frameworks, and enlarge the range of options available for sound decision-making. By this means, human capacity to act in new situations and deal with unfamiliar events is enhanced.
