Inappropriate patterns of development

Description

Dominant patterns of development which are subject to protest from a wide range of groupings may be considered inappropriate for the fulfilment of basic human urges and the augmenting of human dignity and human potential. Gross inequalities, exploitation and dehumanizing domination characterize not only relations between nations but also relations between individuals. Such alienation and lack of harmony leads individuals to question whether an alternative mode of development needs to be formulated, to consider how this may be achieved and how it might be implemented. Current thought tends towards bringing each individual to the centre of the development process, to be an active participant in shaping his or her own destiny.
