Human development through Johrei
Description
A sect within [Shintoism]
, but including some features of Buddhism and Christianity, Johrei venerates the [kami]
and ancestral spirits but, unlike Shintoism, accepts the existence of one overall God who is also worshipped. The sacred centres of Shintoism then become the prototypes for realizing God's plan for creation by acting as a source for disseminating spiritual teachings to the world. Spiritual growth is achieved by transferring healing light or energy from a follower of the sect by extending the hand towards but not touching the recipient, whose body, mind and spirit are thus purified - this is referred to as giving Johrei.
