Flash of intuition (Hinduism)
- Pratibhajnana
- Prophetic intuition
- Clairvoyant intuition
Description
This extrasensory perception or intuition of a future event generally belongs to sages but in rare cases occurs to ordinary persons as well. The intuitive perception of a future object is brought to consciousness by memory. This is to be regarded as a valid perception - it is produced by a real object, it is not doubtful, it is not contradicted, its causes are not vitiated by any defect. A yogin is able to perceive all objects, whether past, present or future, but the flash of intuition described here may be experienced on occasion by anyone. It has been described as an extra-sensory valid perception since it is not produced by the sense organs; it is not produced by the internal organ as it does not operate on external objects. It is not conjecture since it is definite cognition. It is not illusion since it corresponds to actual fact. It is not inference, since it is immediate knowledge.
