Empty-field myopia
Description
Under conditions in which there is nothing on which the eye can focus, the eye tends to focus at about 3 metres, with the result that any object in the distance will be out of focus and may not be noticed. The condition is experienced by pilots flying in cloud, by divers in cloudy water, or by skiers in a snow-storm.
