Eight negations (Buddhism)

Description

Madhyamaka Buddhism (middle way) is based on dialectic which is not seen as the means to an end but the end in itself. The illusory and relative nature of appearances is demonstrated through the "eight negations" of Nagarjuna: no elimination; no production; no destruction; no eternity; no unity; no manifoldness; no arriving; no departing. By this means the unreality of the phenomenal world, the relative nature of opposites and the emptiness of appearances are demonstrated.
