Ecological humanism

Description

Basically, ecological humanism maintains that humankind is the universe as it is in the process of being made. One strives for meaning through one's own existential efforts, gives meaning to the universe through acquired humanity. Aesthetic sensitivity is acquired as part of the evolutionary process. Mind and its cognitive capacities are acquired through the strivings of mankind and of evolution. Spirituality is acquired as the result of evolutionary unfolding. Godliness is acquired as, at the end of the evolutionary journey, we make gods of ourselves. Although this cannot be proved by reason, it can be incorporated into the structure of one's life. In some cases, whether consciously or (more often) subconsciously it has been incorporated into existing ways of life. Rather than defying reason, ecological humanism is an expression of reason seen in evolutionary unfolding. Long-term biological and environmental survival depends on humankind's capacity to remake the world from within, transcending present conditions, adapting to the frugality which is a precondition of inner beauty. If humankind does not reach beyond it will be swept away from where it is.
