Discipline of meditation (Christianity)
Description
In Christian terms, this discipline of being open to communion with God, away from noise, hurry and crowds, is detachment from confusion leading to greater attachment to God and to our fellow men. It leads to an inner wholeness and to spiritual perception; and is a means of redirecting life to deal with its problems. Rather than requiring a mediator with God it provides direct contact. Methods include recollection through surrendering concerns to God and centering on some aspect of the creation; or there may be meditation upon some portion of scripture or some aspect of current affairs whose significance needs elucidating. Regular practice leads to a constant learning process.
