Diminished range of awareness

  • Diminished focus of awareness

Description

Diminished consciousness may arise for a number of reasons, including intoxication, fear or shock. An example is narrowing of object awareness or tunnel vision, when only some of the data presenting itself, that of most relevance to a current concern, is assimilated. Other, objectively more important, features are not regarded. Another example is the domination of one idea or fear in tunnel thinking. Love causes the lover to be "blind" to imperfections in the beloved. Anger causes "blindness" to the other side of the argument. The extreme case of restricted awareness is a twilight state.
