Daily variations in consciousness
- Circadian rhythm
Description
During the day consciousness changes many times, so there are states of sleep, dreams, wakefulness, daydreams and intermediate states. The basis underlying this is the circadian rhythm, which depends on factors such as light and dark, sun position, working hours. When this regular pattern is replaced by an environment without such clues, then the circadian rhythm goes from 24 to 25 hours. The rhythm is evident in body temperature, which has peaks, troughs and levelling off at different times. Each person has his or her own pattern, feeling most alert and capable when the body temperature is high.
