Cosmic integration

Description

Concomitant with the integration of the psyche is the awareness of its relationship to nature and to society, the fundamental reality of the psyche-cosmos continuum. As John Donne put it "No man is an island, entire of itself". One cannot exist without being related to everyone and everything else; and psychic growth cannot be healthy when there is no integral relationship with the total environment. This may express itself in: reverence for life; social action; and subordinating self-interest to the interests of family, friends, community, nation and, ultimately, humanity and the cosmos as a whole. Such cosmic integration is not achieved through reason; but only through stepping into supra-cosmic realization.
