Coriolis illusion
- Vestibular coriolis reaction
Description
Normally the brain discounts the vestibular sensations of acceleration that result from voluntary head movements, provided the body is stationary or moving slowly. In a vehicle travelling rapidly, particularly with irregular movement, the passenger feels his body moving when his head moves, and may see glowing lights apparently move. This aggravates the problem of motion sickness.
