Consolation (Christianity)

This is experienced as feeling love for God, a profound peace and joy, and of being in harmony with one's self and with one's truth. It may arise from the devout "stirring of love" arising from contemplation or from external things. The Cloud of Unknowing indicates that the latter should be held suspect as it needs discernment to discover whether it is a help or a hindrance to growth.
