Concept development

  • Concept formation

Description

Concept development during individual conceptualization is the process of abstraction of qualities or properties. Piaget's concept development scheme and Vygotsky's process of concept formation both map the process of development through phases from childhood to adolescence, all (particularly the first two phases) depending upon the use of words: the grouping of different objects under a common name on the basis of their external relationship; the use of objective and connective thinking in the formation of potential concepts, in uniting and generalizing single objects and in picking out individual common attributes; the formation of genuine concepts by considering, detaching, abstracting and isolating individual elements outside the actually existing bond.
