Concentration of the fourth jhana of four (Buddhism)

Description

Ease or bliss is abandoned; the fourth jhana has two factors: concentration and the equanimity or indifference with which it is accompanied.

Context

According to Hinayana Buddhism, concentration is considered as of one kind (monad), of two kinds (dyads), of three kinds (triads), of four kinds (tetrads) or of five kinds (pentad). In the third tetrad, fourfold according to the four jhana factors, this is the fourth concentration. It is equivalent to the fifth concentration of the pentad.
