Concentration of the first jhana of four (Buddhism)

Description

Having suppressed hindrances, five factors remain in the first jhana: applied thought; sustained thought; rapture or happiness; ease or bliss; concentration.

Context

According to Hinayana Buddhism, concentration is considered as of one kind (monad), of two kinds (dyads), of three kinds (triads), of four kinds (tetrads) or of five kinds (pentad). In the third tetrad, fourfold according to the four jhana factors, this is the first concentration. It is equivalent to the first concentration of the pentad.
