Ceasing from thought is the beginning of meditation or contemplation. Attention is controlled, so there is clarity and attentiveness. In this freedom from thought there is true meditation. One has to learn to still everyday mind, stop the flow of idle chatter, the endless circle of recriminations, rehearsals, puns, snatches of song which tend to fill it.
