Asmita stage (Yoga)

  • Alinga stage of the gunas
  • Atma

Description

In this stage of samadhi, consciousness functions at a level where only awareness of the divine consciousness, of which particular objects or principles are modifications, remains. Although objects as separate entities exist they no longer have any meaning. The exalted consciousness functioning at the Atmic level is the last stage before attainment of Kaivalya. Transcendence of this plane leads to total destruction of individuality before a higher and more subtle form of individuality emerges. Despite the knowledge and bliss inherent at this level they become means of bondage and must also be given up before the final objective is achieved.

Context

The last of the four stages of the gunas.
