Altered states of consciousness induction device (ASCID)

Description

This device, developed by Jean Houston and Robert Masters, induces trance-like states through a swinging motion on a subject who is supported physically and blindfold. The effect is similar to that achieved by psychedelic drugs or hypnosis; however, the individual has more autonomy although being open to suggestion from outside. The effect may be profound, described as experiencing the source of creation, death and rebirth, the ground of being. The results are considered important in discovering the capacities available to man but not normally used; and in control of perception and self-healing.
