Acceptance of the female principle
- Maternal conception of social responsibility
Description
This view is held by the branch of the women's movement which does not so much try to expunge all intrinsic differences between men and women as to re-emphasize and revalue feminine qualities. Paternalistic attitudes, preoccupied with the individual and with a view of the world as a succession of things, are superseded by a more socially oriented outlook and one which supports a holistic view more usually associated with women than with men. This leads to a liberating effect on men as they are "released from their emotional cage", as well as liberating women from their fate as second class citizens. Ultimately, the female imperative to protect could save the earth from exploitation, in line with current green and ecological movements.
