Description

Together with abstinence from bodily misconduct and abstinence from wrong livelihood, this is the mind's adverseness from evil-doing and has the characteristic of non-transgression, of not treading, in its particular field. Its function is shrinking from this field; its manifestation is not doing such things; its proximate cause includes faith, conscience or sense of shame, shame or sense of blame, contentment (fewness of wishes).

Context

One of the formations aggregate (mental coefficients) of Hinayana Buddhism, being listed among the inconstant states, and as secondary profitable (sometimes present in any profitable or profitable-resultant consciousness).
