Long-range goals for mankind

Description

Some desired future state of affairs for mankind whose realization would require an effort lasting over many generations. To qualify as a long-range goal of mankind, the goal must involve a large number of people, probably a considerable fraction of the human race. Either their direct efforts might be required to bring about the goal, or the goal might have an important effect on everybody's life when it was realized even though the direct efforts of many people are not required to bring it about. Goals may either involve the intensification or fulfilment of something already to some extent present in humanity (developmental goals), or they may require the creation or achievement of something qualitatively new (transcendental goals).
