Linear programming
Description
A mathematical technique of exceptional power and generality designed to assist decision-makers in planning certain organizational activities. The problem for which linear programming provides a solution involves the maximization (or minimization) of some dependent variable (e.g. some economic objective such as profits, production, costs, work weeks, etc.) which is a function of several independent variables, when the independent variables are subject to various constraints.
