Integration of knowledge
- Unification of knowledge
- Conceptual integration
Description
The meaning of integration of knowledge is largely determined by the manners in which it is attempted. These include:
1. Encyclopedia method: involving the collection and evaluation of known facts and their tabulation for reference and judgement.
2. Dogma: conversion to a dogma, whether through persuasion or enforcement, functions as an effective integrator for a period of time.
3. Language analysis: leads to a form of integration through an understanding of the medium which carries and transmits accurate information. Semantics is considered to be an integrator of considerable potency, for it draws attention to the medium in which bare facts are embedded, a medium which in part fashions them and gives them their significance in discourse.
4. Conceptual: involving detection and understanding of the basic integrative concepts. Contrasts, polarities, misunderstandings are in many instances embedded in and confined to the surface of knowledge. Disparities and conflicts tend to be eliminated in the light of such basic concepts.
